Doomadgee Solar Farm wins Clean Energy Week 2014 Innovation Award

Doomadgee Solar Farm, winner of the 2014 Clean Energy Week Innovation Award

The Doomadgee Solar Farm in far north-west Queensland was a winner of this year’s Clean Energy Council Innovation Award, beating strong competition to outshine their rivals. RFI Solar was the major project partner for Ergon Energy, and worked closely with the local community, council and our contractors to overcome technical and operational challenges.

Doomadgee is an Aboriginal community with a population of 1052 people, located in the Gulf of Carpentaria in north-western Queensland. The 264kw solar farm combined more than 1000 solar panels with an existing diesel power plant in a town located off the power grid, is helping the remote community save more than 100,000 litres of diesel every year. This unique project will also enable others to replicate this type of model at other isolated and remote locations in the future.
